During the April Mutual Aid Regional Advisory Committee (MARAC) meeting, Cal OES staff provided updates on recently enacted legislation that may impact utility operations and emergency coordination efforts.
AB 1075 clarifies access to public water sources for privately contracted firefighters during wildfire response activities. Utilities should familiarize themselves with updated coordination expectations and access requirements as wildfire preparedness efforts continue statewide.
AB 1531 expands participation in California’s Comprehensive Wildfire Mitigation Program by adding the California Department of Insurance to the governing board. The change is intended to strengthen cross-agency coordination and wildfire mitigation planning across the state.
These updates reflect California’s continued focus on improving wildfire preparedness, response, and recovery through greater collaboration among public agencies, utilities, and emergency management partners.
CUEA will continue monitoring legislative and regulatory developments that affect member utilities and emergency preparedness efforts.
