The Wildfire Forecast & Threat Intelligence Integration Center (WFTIIC) (Senate Bill 209 (Dodd)-2019-2020 Regular Session)) serves as California’s integrated central organizing hub for wildfire forecasting, weather information, threat intelligence gathering, analysis and dissemination. WFTIIC also coordinates wildfire threat intelligence and data sharing among federal, state, local agencies, tribal governments, utilities, other service providers, academic institutions and nongovernmental organizations. The group meets on a monthly basis. WFTIIC is made up of representatives from:
- The California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES)
- The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire)
- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)
- The California Military Department
- The University of California
- The California State University
- The California Utilities Emergency Association
- At least one representative of investor-owned utility companies, appointed by the President of the Public Utilities Commission
- At least one representative of publicly owned utilities, appointed jointly by the Director of Emergency Services and the Director of Forestry and Fire Protection
- Other members as designated jointly by the Director of Emergency Services and the Director of Forestry and Fire Protection
The CPUC selected Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) as the IOU representative and CalFire selected the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) as the POU representative.
CUEA attends the monthly meetings on behalf of members to ensure that the state agencies understand the needs of California’s six critical infrastructure utilities sectors (gas, electric, water, wastewater, telecommunications and petroleum pipeline).
