The strength of California’s emergency response system lies in the power of collaboration.
Every day, our state’s utilities face increasing pressures—from extreme weather and wildfire risks to aging infrastructure and rapidly evolving regulations and requirements, creating operational challenges. And while each utility manages its own system, the reality is that our lifeline services are deeply interconnected.
As CUEA’s Executive Director, I see firsthand how much stronger we are when utilities, agencies, and partners work together.
Coordination isn’t just a best practice — it’s a necessity. When information flows faster, when resource needs are shared openly, and when partners understand each other’s operational realities, we protect communities more effectively.
Our role at CUEA is to help strengthen those connections:
- ensuring communication stays clear during fast-moving emergencies,
- supporting mutual assistance across sectors,
- and helping partners align with statewide response efforts.
This work is never done. I am humbled by the dedication and passion that the staff and leaders of California’s utilities of all sizes have for their communities and the critical services that they provide.
The future of utility emergency management will be defined by collaboration — and CUEA remains committed to supporting the people and organizations who make that possible.
